Freedom is in Christ Alone

As we approach this Fourth of July, many across our nation will gather with family and friends, enjoy good food, and celebrate the freedoms we hold dear. And yet, we cannot ignore the weight of the times we are living in—where the climate of our democracy feels uncertain, where division too often drowns out unity, and where fear tries to challenge faith.

But I am reminded that the believer does not rely solely on what is happening around us — we anchor ourselves in what God has already said.

Psalm 121 declares, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord..." This is more than inspiring words on a page—it is a call to spiritual focus. While we honor the liberties of this nation, we must also recommit ourselves to the higher calling of Kingdom citizenship. That means doing our part in our communities, praying for our leaders, standing up for what is right, and being a light even in difficult times.

Freedom is not only something to be celebrated—it is something to be stewarded. And true freedom comes from Christ. Let us continue to be people of hope, of service, and of prayer. May we love our neighbors, speak truth with grace, and remain grounded in God’s promises no matter what the headlines say.

On behalf of myself and Lady Valerie, I wish you a safe, joyful, and blessed Independence Day.

Let us celebrate wisely and continue to walk faithfully.

—Pastor Thomas and Lady Val
